Lancer Stories 2026-2027

As the 2026-2027 school year gets fully underway, we are entering the fifth year of a deliberate, step-by-step journey to shift what it means to attend high school.

For many of us, high school memories revolve around rigid subject silos, memorizing facts, and prepping for traditional exams where recalling information was the top priority. But the world our students are entering has changed radically. With information now instantly accessible at our fingertips, mere content knowledge is no longer the primary driver of future success. In a global innovation economy, the priority has shifted from simply possessing information to knowing how to find, interpret, analyze, and transfer it to real-world application.

At Lake Park, postsecondary success is not a single destination; it is a continuous journey that begins the moment a student enters our doors. We navigate this journey through our strategic framework, The Lancer Way, which serves as our compass to focus on what matters most. At the heart of this work is Lancer-Centric Learning: ensuring every decision, lesson, and program is designed around individual student needs.

Preparing Lancers for Postsecondary Success

To better prepare students for the modern workforce, we are moving beyond traditional subject silos to emphasize 21st-century durable, transferable skills, the competencies that both top universities and leading employers value most. By integrating these traits directly into our academic subjects, our Lancers develop the core attributes of our District’s Portrait of a Graduate: critical thinking, global citizenship, thoughtful communication, resilience, and collaborative leadership.

To deliver learning experiences aligned with these postsecondary needs, we are actively working to build and expand Career-Interest Pathways across our system. Combining these pathways with our Portrait of a Graduate competencies ensures students gain the skills needed for success in both college and non-college outcomes. Whether preparing for four-year degrees and professional fields like medicine, engineering, law, and business, or high-demand skilled trades like advanced manufacturing, mechatronics, construction technologies, and automotive systems, our students will apply core academic knowledge to solve real-world problems and gain hands-on career exposure before graduation. These aligned experiences not only connect academic learning to real careers, but also help students test their interests early, saving families thousands of dollars in postsecondary tuition.

These are significant shifts, and true institutional culture change does not happen overnight, as it is a multi-year process of continuous growth. Because secondary education today looks and feels quite different from decades past, we want to give you an authentic, front-row seat to this progress. Over the coming months, we will be sharing Lancer Stories, a regular series featuring honest, behind-the-scenes glimpses into our classrooms to highlight system changes, student experiences, and our educators as they actively navigate this growth phase together.

We invite you to join us on this journey as we chronicle the evolution of our school system to provide every student with expanded opportunities for exploration, discovery, and personal development. Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to prepare every Lancer for life.

With Lancer Pride,

Dr. Michael Wojtowicz
